York College Commencement

York, Pennsylvania -- More than 650 students will receive their diplomas during the Spring 2003 Commencement at York College. The event takes place Saturday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. on the Campus Mall. Awarded will be approximately 450 Bachelor of Science degrees, 175 Bachelor of Arts degrees, 20 Master of Business degrees, and 10 Associate degrees. Honorary Degree recipients are Dr. Rita Mae Brown, a best-selling author who lives near Charlottesville, Virginia, and Frank Motter, a York native who is a business executive and community leader.

Ms. Brown, who will be the Commencement Speaker, grew up in Hanover, Pennsylvania. She has written numerous novels and mysteries, several books of poetry, and a writer's manual. She has twice been nominated for an Emmy. An avid sports enthusiast, Dr. Brown is the Master of Fox Hounds of the Oak Ridge Fox Hunt Club and a founding member of the Piedmont Women's Polo Club.

Before retiring, Mr. Motter was President and Chairman of the Board of Motter Printing Press Company. He is past President of the Board of Memorial Hospital and a former board member of several organizations including, the Rotary Club of York, the York Chapter of the American Red Cross, the United Way of York County, the Chamber of Commerce of York, and York College.
