FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania -- Little robots are once again invading York College of Pennsylvania. For the second year in a row, Robo Camp will be held on campus, and this time there are two separate weeks of action. The summer day camp is for students in grades six through nine and will take place June 16-20 and June 23-27.

Participants will learn to work as a team to solve a problem through the use of a LEGO kit, which includes a programmable device. Though robots are the lure for the camp, students will actually be learning various math and science technologies, according to Dr. Jim Kearns, Associate Professor of Physical Science. He says the teams will build robots for daily competition. Students from nine different local school districts will be represented at the camp.

The robotics camp is designed to reveal the challenges and rewards of science and engineering to middle school students and to introduce them to some of the skills required for success in these fields. The camp is based upon a model developed by the National Robotics Engineering Consortium at Carnegie-Mellon University.

The camps will run, each day, from 9:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. For more information call Dr. Kearns at (717) 815-1522.
