York, Pennsylvania - The checkered flag has been waived and York College of Pennsylvania scored big at an international competition in Dayton, Ohio last week. The YCP "Mini Baja" team, a group of engineering students that built an off road car, tied for first place in the category of "quality craftsmanship." Overall, the team placed 25th out of 143 colleges throughout the U.S. and around the world.

This was the second year York College participated in the competition. The goal of the project, according to faculty advisor Tim Garrison, is "to provide undergraduate students with a simulation of real-world engineering." He says each competition offers a variety of events for the team to display the versatility of their design.

The project is sponsored by Fishel Chrysler Plymouth Jeep, Harley Davidson, Duratek, and the Quigley family. Numerous goods and services were provided by other local companies. For more information, you may call Dr. Garrison at (717) 815-1710.
