Civil War on Race Street

York, Pennsylvania – A book described as an important contribution to the civil rights era has been written by a York College Professor. Civil War on Race Street, the latest book authored by Peter B. Levy, primarily discusses the significance of Race Street as the road that divided blacks and whites. Civil War on Race Street, which has been nominated to win The Liberty Legacy Foundation Award and the James A. Rawley Prize, portrays the African-American freedom struggle that took place in Cambridge, Maryland during the 1960s.

Levy specializes in recent American history and teaches courses on Race, Modern America, Women, and Economic history at York College. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his B.A. and at Columbia University in New York he earned his M.A. and Ph.D. He now lives in Towson, Maryland.
