FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

York, Pennsylvania -- A significant exhibition of art work, by Dutch artist M.C. Escher (1898-1972) is being  presented at York College of Pennsylvania through November 1. Entitled Infinite Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher, the exhibition is one of the largest ever assembled of the artist's work.

Escher grew up in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, excelling in mathematics and architecture. He spent his life exploring the complex world of perception and how to express in visual form one of the most puzzling and elusive concepts in man's thought: INFINITY. His art defies categorization, and he is known throughout the world by not only artists, but also mathematicians, physicists, psychologists, and many others.

The centerpiece of the exhibit will be Escher's 13-foot long masterpiece of remarkable imagination called Metamorphosis II, depicting bees, birds, and reptiles changing into geometric shapes and architectural forms. Infinite Realities is making its last tour stop at York College, before going on permanent display in Athens, Greece.

At the show's opening reception on Sept. 17th, exhibition curator Jeffrey Price presented a lecture entitled "The Magic and Mastery of M.C. Escher." A second lecture will be presented October 22 by mathematics professor Dr. Doris Schattschneider called "M.C. Escher: Capturing Infinity."

The exhibition, lectures, and opening reception are free and open to the public. For more information you may contact Professor Pamela Hemzik, Department of Music, Art, and Communication at York College. Her phone number is (717) 815-1402, and her e-mail address is: phemzik@ycp.edu.
