Student senate president Kyle Joines helped Mayor Kim Bracey light York city’s tree during the annual “Light Up Night” on Friday, Dec. 7. Along with the tree lighting, the celebration on Continental Square featured live entertainment and a children’s activity area, as well as Santa Claus.
Joines, a senior public relations major interning in the mayor’s office in the spring, was asked to be part of the festivities because of his great efforts to bridge the gap between the city and the College.
“The mayor’s office recognizes my commitment to building a strong relationship between our College and the city,” he said. “As the voice of the student body, I am honored to be able to represent YCP in the community. We are laying the groundwork for a long, fruitful relationship.”
Joines said it is important that students continue to support the city, its events and its businesses. Through his internship, he plans to help further his efforts of bringing the two groups together.
“I am eager to work more with Mayor Bracey and believe it will be a great learning experience for me,” he added.
