York College will hold its annual Relay for Life event May 3, at 5 p.m., on the Main Campus track, 441 Country Club Rd., York. The event is open to the community and donations can be made to The American Cancer Society though its website www.relayforlife.org.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an event that gives everyone in the community and campus a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease. At the event, teams of people camp out at the college campus location and take turns walking or running around the track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relay is an overnight event that is up to 24 hours in length.
Many things make this event special, such as the Survivors Lap and the Luminaria Ceremony. The event will also feature games, food and entertainment. There are more than 40 teams, 300 participants and $13,000 raised thus far to fight back against cancer.
