- Human services is a great major if you're really interested in working with people and making a difference in people's lives. - People who are human service professionals work in all sorts of different locations. They work in people's homes with families who might be struggling. They can work in child welfare offices, they can work in protection and advocacy offices and the list just goes on and on and on. It's a broad field that meets human need and helps people live the types of lives that they want to live. - With human services you really get to get down and dig deep and really see how people feel, or what they're thinking and I think that's what appeals to me the most. - From day one when you go in to advisers, they set you up for success. You don't really feel like you're talking just to a professor, you're talking to someone who's already been there and done that in the field and they want to help you to get successful as they are. You get to have that mentor, that really close bond. - [Voiceover] You ever see an older adult with their head up like this? That's macular degeneration. - We have very interactive, fun classes. You're getting a lot of hands-on experience throughout the program as well, so even as early on as your sophomore year, you will be involved at a community agency to get some hands-on experience. Employers want to see students who have real-world experience. - I worked at a social rehabilitation program for my internship and that's when I really realized, wow, this is for me. That was the best experience that your college could have ever given me. - Now only use your gloved hand. I want you to take off the top. - The other really neat thing about the human services program is that it's flexible in nature, though if you're really interested more in working with maybe at-risk youth, we have a lot of youth development classes that you can take, so you can really fine tune and tailor the program depending on your career interests. - Well, in the future, I would like to be able to counsel people, especially veterans. And I think for my background, as being a veteran, I can really go forth and help people and getting that joy to see someone else being happy by you helping them, there's nothing better than that.
