YCA-I The Young Ladies Classical School and The Normal School Records

YCA-I1 Papers of the Young Ladies' Classical School which began in 1799 and closed in 1871 due to low enrollment:
  • Catalogues, 1856, 1857 include directories of Board members, faculty, and students, as well as fees and courses
  • newspaper advertisement April 12, 1832 and transcript

YCA-I2 Papers of the Normal School- Normal Schools offered courses to future teachers. The York County Normal School operated from the Academy building from 1858-1921
  • 1977 newspaper article describing the Normal School and Academy building
  • three booklets created for 1947 Reunion of students and instructors including information on Normal School history, origin of the York County Normal School, curriculum, and photographs of Dr. Gardner and Academy building

YCA-K9 "Heir at Law" documents- students petitioned Board of Trustees @1820-1830 for use of YCA building attic to perform plays. "Heir at Law" was one of these performances.

Miller for receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award, plus Miller's papers concerning 1977 Founder's Day Celebration and 1981 reunion- also included are some Alumni Association minutes
YCA-L3 Memoirs 1915- the only Academy yearbook, softbound in black suede includes photographs, history, poems, student biographies, Normal School history, local business ads
YCA-L4 Alumni index cards- alphabetical listing of alumni with date of their enrollment and their hometown. Women and men listed separately.
YCA-L5 "Recollections"- photocopy of the 1978, 154 page autobiographical manuscript of Millard E. Gladfelter who attended YCA 1916-1918
YCA-L6 Documents relating to George E. Holtzapple (1862-1946)- Holtzapple discovered oxygen therapy in 1885- included are a 1965 scrapbook that commemorates 80th anniversary of his discovery with a photograph of Holtzapple, biographical information, essays on oxygen therapy, newspaper articles, and commemoration program
