Saving Files to Your H: (Network ) Drive

    Why Do This? 

    Your home drive (H:) is

    Click here for directions for mapping the network drive (Do this if you cannot access your H drive from the dorms.)

     
    1. Create the document
    2. Click the File menu
    3. Click Save As
    4. Click the pull down menu of the Save in box (see sample screen below).
    5. Click your home directory. Yours should be username on Dragon (H:). In XP the H: may not be visible, but you will see your name. Sometimes if you don't see H:, you may have to map the drive.  Click here for directions.
    6. Click in File Name box
    7. Type in a ONE WORD name.  You can use underlines or hyphens in place of spaces.
    8. Press Save
    9. The document is now saved to your home directory
    10. Note: If you add a folder to your directory, the folder name should be one word - no spaces
      .
    To open the file for revision from a ycp network computer:
    1. Double click My Computer
    2. Double click Your Username on 'Dragon' (H:)
    3. Double click file name
    To save the revision:
    1. Click File in the menu bar >> Save 
    2. Or click the save icon in the standard toolbar (looks like a disk)

    If the H: drive is not on the list of options in the Save In box and it is NOT showing up under "My Computer," you may need to map the network drive. Follow the directions below.

    If they do not work, contact the IT helpdesk at 815-1559.

    For Windows 2000/XP

    Click on your Start Button

    Right Click "My Computer" on menu

    Click on "Map Network Drive"

     

    Choose the H drive from the drop-down

     

    In the "Folder" box type in \\dragon\username

    Your USERNAME is the same one you use to log on to all YCP computers

    Then click Finish at the prompt

    Go to "My Computer" and you should now have access to your H drive.
