Wireless Access on Campus
Information Technology is pleased to announce our conversion to new wireless access points. The new system greatly expands coverage on campus and simplifies access procedures.
Connecting to the YCP Wireless
Instructions for connecting to the wireless can be found at http://my.ycp.edu under the "YCP Services" Tab.
Getting Prepared
In order to be ready for the changes, you will need the following items.
- Your YCP network account and password. If you don’t have one you can obtain one from the IT Help Desk at room PAC181.
- A laptop or tablet PC running Windows XP with Service Pack 2. SP2 includes patches that allow you to use more recent versions of encryption and also corrects other wireless bugs. You should consult the Microsoft website before installing SP2. SP2 is incompatible with some older Windows applications. (Other operating systems may have 802.1x, but are not supported by IT at this time.)
- A wireless network adapter for 802.11A, 802.11B, or 802.11G WiFi networks. This is often built into newer laptops, but add-on cards are also easily obtained wherever computers are sold. Only one of these standards are needed. If you are purchasing a new card, IT recommends that it be either multi-protocol or 802.11G standard.
- It may be necessary to obtain the latest drivers for your wireless network adapter to use it with SP2 and encryption. For built-in cards this must be obtained from your PC’s manufacturer’s website. For add-on cards, check the manufacturer’s website.
