Blackboard Faculty FAQ

1. How do I activate a course in Blackboard?

From the main page in Blackboard:  select the course under MyCourses that you need to activate or deactivate.  Select Control Panel from the left hand menu.  Select the Settings link inside the Course Options box.  Choose the Course Availability link.  Select either the Yes or the No option and select the Submit button.

2. How do I make Blackboard accessible to my students?

As soon as you activate your course, it will be available to your students.

3. Why should I use Blackboard instead of MyCourses?

Blackboard and MyCourses will be available through spring 2010.  After spring 2010, the MyCourses feature will be removed.

4. What features does Blackboard have?

Please either sign up for training or visit the Blackboard Resources page and review the YCP Blackboard manual.  The Blackboard Resources page is available under the Help icon near the top of any Blackboard window.

5. Can I upload grades from an Excel file into Blackboard?

This procedure is described well in the official Blackboard manual which is available from the Control Panel in the Help box in any course.

6. Where is the Digital Dropbox?

Digital Dropbox, a feature of Blackboard, is disabled.  York College offers the Inbox application, accessed via MyYCP, in place of the Digital Dropbox.

7. Will Inbox be removed?

There are no plans to remove Inbox at this time.

8. Why can't I see pictures of course members on Blackboard?

This is a feature in Blackboard that is being considered for development but has not yet been implemented.

9. How do I change my Blackboard password?

The username and password for Blackboard is the same as your YCP username and password, and if you want to change your YCP password, you would use the Change Password channel on the Home tab of the MyYCP portal.

10. Why can I only modify one or two items of my personal information in Blackboard?

There are only a limited number of personal items that are stored in Blackboard. This was a decision made by the Blackboard implementation team.

11. How can I hide courses from past semesters?
