New Student Pre-Arrival Checklist

BEFORE arriving on campus, please:
  1. For all Windows computers, install all critical Microsoft Windows updates.  Connect to http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/
from the computer you are bringing to campus (if you don't already have it set up on your system) using the Internet Explorer browser.  Follow the instructions to install all updates.
  2. Install all YCP-provided McAfee products (anti-virus and anti-spyware).  Please uninstall any anti-virus or anti-spyware software on the computer you are bringing to campus before installing McAfee software.
Please note: All students are required to install YCP anti-virus software.  Please do not purchase or renew a subscription to another anti-virus / anti-spyware service.  You will have to uninstall that software and install York College's required software.

To download this free software, you will need to log in to the MyYCP portal.  Packets containing a valid YCP network user name and password will be mailed home for new students after August 1st.  Once you have your user name and password, please log in to the MyYCP portal: http://my.ycp.edu and select the "For Students" tab.

On the "For Students" tab there is a channel entitled, "Student Computer Protection" that contains links to download the software.

McAfee® Antivirus® and McAfee® Anti-Spyware® will be available for students running Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista. McAfee® Virex® for Macintosh™ will be available to students running MAC OSX 10.2.6, 10.2.8, 10.3x, 10.4x; Mactel 10.4.4 and later.  This software will also be available for installation during the York College network registration process, but we strongly encourage students to install these applications before arriving on campus.  This will signficantly reduce the time required to register student machines on the campus network on move-in day.
  3. Consult the recommended student computer specifications.  In our opinion, a system meeting these specifications will provide you with adequate computing resources to support your collaboration, research, and communication needs at YCP.
  4. Review our computing policies and practices.
