    Configuring Dial-Up Networking

    Install Dial-up Networking Software (if not already installed):


     
     Note -check to see if Dial-up support is already installed:
            <double-click> My Computer Icon, located on the desktop.
                                                                      
     95 & 98 Users
              <double-click> Dial-up Networking
       
     ME Users
              <double-click>
    Control Panel
              <double-click> Dial-up Networking
       

            


           
    IF the Dial-up Networking folder exists, skip to step 6.
    If it does NOT exist
        <click>
    Start > Settings > Control Panel
        <double-click>
    Add/Remove Programs
        <click> Windows Setup tab
        <select>&<check> Communications, from the Components window
        <click>
    Details
        <click> Dial-up Networking check box
        <click> OK button
    -You may be instructed to insert the disk labeled "
    Windows...CD-ROM."
    -If so, <click> the OK button.
    -You may be asked to restart your computer after the installation is complete.

    Step #6: Create a Dial-Up Network Icon

     6. <double-click> My Computer Icon, located on the Desktop.

              <double-click> Dial-up Networking
       
     95 & 98 Users
              <double-click> Dial-up Networking
    ME Users
              <double-click> Control Panel
              <double-click>
    Dial-up Networking
       
      <double-click> Make a New Connection Icon.    

    Follow the instructions from the setup wizard throughout the installation process.

        Name the new connection a representative name, such as YCP Server.
        <click>
    Next
        Enter the YCP Phone Number, 718-9949.
        <click> Finish

    Configure Your Dial-up Icon:

     7. <right-click> on your new Dial-up Connection.
     <click> Properties
       
       

    *You probably will NOT want to use country code and area code due to long distance telephone charges. There may be other ways to get the information you want. Contact the Help Desk.

    <click> the Configure button.
    <click> the Options tab
        Both Connection Control boxes are unchecked.

    <click> OK button

    8. the Server Types Tab

    PPP, Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Internet is selected
    Log on to Network is
    unchecked
    Enable software compression is
    checked
    Require encrypted password is
    unchecked
    Net BEUI is
    unchecked
    IPX/SPX Compatible is
    unchecked
    TCP/IP is checked

    9. the TCP/IP Settings... button

    Server assigned IP address is checked
    Specify name server addresses is
    checked
    Both DNS numbers from step #4 are
    entered
    Use IP Header is
    checked
    Use default gateway is
    checked
    <click> OK button
    <click> OK button again
