PUBLICATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS

The Spartan Newspaper
The Spartan is the weekly campus newspaper created entirely by students. The office is located on the lower level of the Student Union. The Spartanwas established as a source of information, a student forum, and as an opportunity to provide students with experience in journalism, advertising, and business management. Any student interested in news writing, entertainment writing, production, advertising sales, proofreading, layout (computer or manual), or word processing is encouraged to join the staff of The Spartan. The newspaper has many features like organizational news, entertainment, and College news. It is a successful, professional newspaper that informs as well as entertains.

WVYC - Radio
WVYC FM99.7 and AM640 are located on the upper level of the Student Union. The FM station is a 10 watt, noncommercial educational facility operated completely by students of the College and under the guidance of the Department of Music, Art, and Communication. The station is on air seven days a week while school is in session - providing news, sports, education, and a variety of music for the College and the York community. It also serves as a key training facility for York College communications majors.

Past and Present
Past and Present, the YCP History and Political Science Department Journal, is a unique publication providing students of all majors with an outlet for their scholastic efforts in history and political science. Past and Present allows students to publish their written work -essays, term papers, and articles - and provides a showcase for their artistic talent - covers and illustrations. Members of the editorial staff receive valuable experience in all facets of publishing a journal - editing, selecting papers, typing, binding, and even distribution. The editors and staff of Past and Present are proud of their publication, grateful to those who contribute papers or artwork, and hopeful for the future. New staff members and new ideas are always welcome.

American Criminal Justice Association
The American Criminal Justice Association is designed to foster a greater understanding of the field of criminal justice. It provides a forum for students of criminal justice in all matters of professional concern to them.

American Marketing Association
In 1990, the YCP Marketing Club became a chapter of the American Marketing Association. The club is a social and informative organization open to any student interested in getting ahead in the business world. AMA is designed to serve as a medium of exchange of knowledge in the field of marketing. Members will enjoy a trade journal throughout the year. Programs, guest speakers, and field trips to marketing related businesses are a large part of the club's activities. After being an AMA member during college, students can then join the professional chapter of the American Marketing Association at a reduced rate for the first year.

Anthropology Club
The purposes of the Anthropology Club are to: further the education of interested students in all areas of the scientific discipline of anthropology, to be available to assist York College of Pennsylvania faculty when studies or projects become necessary or available, to create a group of students with the skills and expertise needed to assist properly when special assistance is asked of faculty members (for example the assistance needed by local law enforcement for a forensic anthropology team or when a construction site unearths a site of anthropological significance), and to assist in bringing in speakers of historical, anthropological, or scientific importance. We have a field team that is now available for any type of anthropological and archeological work. We also do trips to museums, historical places, cultural events, and anything else we think would be of interest, educational value, or just plain fun for our members. We also are active in the community doing classroom presentations, Adopt-A-Block, and other community building or helping activities.

Best Buddies
The mission of Best Buddies Colleges is to provide an opportunity for college students to be matched in a one-to-one friendship with individuals who have intellectual disabilities through communication and social gatherings. Social experiences and relationships are a part of life; unfortunately, individuals with intellectual disabilities have historically been excluded from many of the social opportunities that most people enjoy.

Without friends and family, we are alone. In the past, individuals with intellectual disabilities have not had the opportunity to have friends outside of their own environment. By becoming a College Buddy, volunteers offer a Buddy the chance to explore a new way of life. By becoming a College Buddy, you will not only befriend someone with a developmental disability, but you will also learn about yourself in the process.

Biology Club
The goals of the club are to explore new areas within biology, provide peer support, and foster a social network among students by organizing field trips, talks, and other projects. Members participate in community and College services. Some of these activities include tutoring and charitable fundraising. Participation is welcomed to all students interested in any aspect of biological science. Contact the Department of Biological Sciences at Ext. 1510 for information.

B.O.R.E.D.
B.O.R.E.D is a student organization open to anyone who loves to play board games! If you like to play games and have fun, this club is for you. You can bring your own games or donate games to the club. This club helps promote campus wellness and keeps students on campus on the weekends.

Chemistry Society
The goals of the club are to explore new areas within chemistry, provide peer support, and foster a social network among students by organizing field trips, talks, and other projects. Participation is welcomed to all students interested in any aspect of chemistry. Contact the Department of Chemistry at Ext. 1523 for more information.

Dance Team
The York College Dance Team is made up of a group of students who love to dance and show dedication to the team. Our hard work and enthusiasm is seen when we perform at almost every home basketball game.

E.C.O.
E.C.O. is a student organization committed to the defense of the earth, especially in regards to the ecosystems of the local and regional communities. We go about this by first determining to change our own lifestyles and second in acting upon those things that require change on the YCP campus. Branching out from there involves networking and participation with other area colleges and universities
and an increase of the knowledge of regional natural systems such as the Susquehanna watershed and Chesapeake Bay. Environmental education is the key.

Equestrian Club
The York College Equestrian Club was founded by students Carmen Fajardo and Susan Sweeney in Spring 2005. The club meets weekly with lessons that teach about horses and competition. They compete in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 3 Region 1. It is a very intense and competitive sport with a dedicated team and coach.

Fight Club
York College Fight Club meets twice a week and provides a place for individuals to practice boxing, kickboxing, grappling, and any other hand to hand fighting techniques. All forms of fighting are welcome. We like having people of diverse expertise and abilities. Anyone is welcome to attend regardless of experience. We provide sparring equipment and training accessories. There is not formal teaching in Fight Club. Everyone learns from each other actively while practicing/sparring.

Finance Society
The Finance Society was established to bring economics and finance majors, as well as other interested students, together for career-oriented activities. The society tries to establish a network of friends among peers and heighten awareness of what to expect after, as well as prepare for, graduation. To accomplish this we present guest speakers from related fields of interest, participate in social activities in and around campus, and organize field trips to places such as the NYSE.

Forensics
This organization is designed for students who are interested in improving their speaking and presentation skills. As a member of this organization, students can be active in intercollegiate tournament competitions, give speeches on campus or in the community, participate in the annual multi-media production, and join the Pi Kappa Delta National Forensics Fraternity.

Frisbee Club
All students interested in frisbee are welcome to join the York College Frisbee Club.

Gender Studies Group
This organization is an educational and social club for all students interested in meeting and discussing various topics concerning women and gender issues. While facilitating a dialogue and exploration of the social, cultural, and economic issues of gender, the club fosters personal growth and development through networking and student-based initiatives with regard to students' majors. Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer organization that helps to build homes with families in need. The group has workdays and organizes other social events. No experience is necessary, and all are invited to join.

Hillel
This national organization offers spiritual, social, and community activities for YCP's Jewish students. Hillel allows students from different backgrounds in Judaism to come together as a positive force for themselves, the College, and the community.

Hispanic Cultural Society
The Hispanic Cultural Society is a group organized to provide unity and leadership to students interested in stimulating and educating other students about the Hispanic culture. The organization is open to all students.

History and International Studies Professional Organization
H.I.S.P.O. is an organization devoted to the exploration of career opportunities for students in the fields of History, Political Science, and International Studies. H.I.S.P.O. arranges public lectures by professionals in the related fields (professors, authors, and museum curators), holds "roundtable" discussions on current controversies, and participates in field trips to museums, archives, and conferences. H.I.S.P.O. also provides members with the opportunity to gain work experience in their prospective fields through the Daughters of the American Revolution, the York Historical Society, and other such organizations in the York County area.

International Students Club
This organization promotes a positive atmosphere for international students to socialize and investigate the values of all foreign cultures as well as American society. The club shares with all American students a wide range of personal, social, and political experiences. Membership is open to all students with an interest in foreign cultures.

Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship
In response to God's love, grace, and truth: The purpose of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship/U.S.A. is to establish and advance at colleges and universities witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord; growing in love for God, God's Word, God's people of every ethnicity and culture, and God's purposes in the world.

Lambda
Lambda works to provide the student body with a positive, supportive organization for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals. Lambda is a social club for all students regardless of sexual orientation. Lambda also serves as a confidential support group for students who are questioning their sexual orientation. Through activities and events, Lambda hopes to make York College and the community more tolerant and accepting.

Mathematics Club
The Mathematics Club holds monthly socials featuring movies such as Good Will Hunting and A Beautiful Mind. About once a year a road trip is made to a mathematics conference. These club events are open to all students.

MENC (Music Educators National Conference)
Music Educators National Conference is an organization dedicated to the support and advancement of music in K-12 schools. It is specifically geared towards Music Education majors, but MENC welcomes members from ANY discipline area. The members of MENC also have the opportunity to enjoy MENC collegiate membership, to share its responsibilities, and to increase interest, knowledge, and productivity in all areas of Music Education.

Newman Club
The Newman Club is a national religious organization which fosters and promotes the welfare of all College students, faculty, and administrators. The Newman Club is a unique social organization which supports Catholic Campus Ministry by sponsoring socials after Mass, organizing a retreat every semester, and providing service to the community. Students are encouraged to come together to pray, to socialize, and to celebrate the gift of life.

Peer Education Network (PEN)
The Peer Education Network is a group of students dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyle choices through a variety of fun and entertaining educational and social programs. PEN is affiliated with BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer Education Network - a national organization that assists in developing programs and offers conference opportunities for college students. Main areas of emphasis are: National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, National Smoke Out Day, Drunk & Drugged Driving Prevention, Sexual Responsibility Week, and Safe Spring Break Awareness. Pre-Law Society
The Pre-Law Society is open to all majors. It is dedicated to creating a support system for those students who are interested in a career in the legal field. Members learn about choosing a law school, taking the LSAT and more. The Pre-Law Society provides a link between law school hopefuls and the advisors who can assist them in getting there. It is a great way to pursue independent studies and internships within the legal field.

Psychology Club
The Psychology Club of York College and its members shall respect the dignity and worth of the individual and strive for the preservation and protection of fundamental human rights. The members shall be committed to increasing knowledge of human behavior and of people's understanding of themselves and others, and to the utilization of such knowledge for the promotion of human rights.

Recreation Society
The Recreation Society is an organization established to encourage participation in career-oriented programs and promote professionalism among recreation majors. The Society provides opportunities for professional development and educational enrichment through membership in and close association with the Pennsylvania Recreation and Parks Society. In addition, the Society strives to develop an awareness of opportunities available in the recreation field.

Rhapsody
Rhapsody is a student-run a cappella group that is open to all students regardless of major. Look for audition information during the first week of each semester.

Student Education Association (S.E.A.)
S.E.A. is open to all students interested in learning more about public education. Membership requirements include speakers, community service, and group events.

Ski and Outdoor Club
The YCP Ski and Outdoor Club is run by the students for the students and is now the largest non-Greek organization on campus. The Ski and Outdoor Club seeks adventurous individuals who enjoy skiing and outdoor activities. There is no admission fee to join, only your love for the outdoors. Special events are planned throughout the year; many where discount rates are offered. Come out to meet new friends and experience some wild adventures.

Society for Human Resource Management
The Society for Human Resource Management Club is a group organized to provide educational opportunities to students interested in the Human Resource major. The organization is open to all students.

Sport Management Student Association
The SMSA is for any sport management major or sport-minded individual. We hold sports related fundraisers throughout the year to enhance our experiences and to provide students with guest speakers and field trips. We have monthly meetings and are always looking for new members!

Student Nurses Association
Membership in this pre-professional organization is open to any student pursuing the nursing degree. It is a constituent of the National Student Nurses Association and the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania. S.N.A.P. endeavors to promote nursing professionalism through its many health-promoting activities, awareness of health-related issues, and interaction with the nursing program, including peers, faculty, and curriculum.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
Do you want to "Change the World"? SIFE Teams change the world every day. Students from all majors are invited to join the award-winning York College SIFE team in service projects and community outreach. These activities are part of SIFE's mission to help people achieve their dreams through free enterprise education. SIFE is the world's preeminent university-based free enterprise organization. It is a global nonprofit that provides leadership training; regional, national and international competitions; and career opportunity fairs for thousands of college students. SIFE is a prominent organization on campus and one that will put your talents to work on projects that can "change the world."

Unity Club
The Unity Club is a service group organized to provide unity and leadership to students who are interested in stimulating and educating other students and the community on topics concerning minorities. The organization is open to all students.

York College Republicans
The York College of Pennsylvania College Republicans club is committed to ensuring that all students hear and understand timeless conservative ideas related to the principles of strong national defense, free markets, smaller government, freedom, patriotism, and traditional values. We accomplish our mission by providing speakers, debates, rallies, active campaigning, and other events that work toward an intellectual balance on campus. Website: www.york.collegerepublicans.org
