Spring Orientation

Date:

April 26, 2008 and May 9, 2008

Purpose:

York College of Pennsylvania is proud to sponsor two Spring Orientation Programs each year.  We want to make your transition to college as smooth as possible.  It's our way to help you become acquainted with the objectives, programs and facilities of the College.  We also take great pride in the strong student to faculty relationships that flourish here.  Come check us out!

Overview:

We invite newly accepted students and their parents to attend one of two Spring Orientation Programs.  The first one is held on Saturday, April 26th and the second one is held on Friday, May 9th.

Check-in and a continental breakfast will begin at 8 am in the M & T Field House of the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center.  The program will begin promptly at 9 am.  The students and parents will attend different sessions in the morning.  The students will attend "Launching Your Academic Program" followed by math placement testing and an academic advising session.  Parents will meet with various college officials representing Housing, Financial Aid, Business Affairs, Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

A light lunch will be available in the Johnson Dining Hall of the Iosue Student Union building for a fee of $6.00 per person at 12:30 pm for both parents and students.  Finally, there is an Activities Fair where students can get their student ID processed, meet student leaders of various clubs and organizations and meet with representatives from the Bookstore, Residence Life, Career Services, Student Activities & Orientation, Health Center, Athletics & Recreation, Religious Activities, Public Safety, Counseling Services and Volunteer Programs and Multicultural Affairs.

In making your travel plans, you can expect to complete the program by 3 pm.

Invitations:

Individual invitations to the Spring Orientation Programs are usually mailed out to the students in the middle of March.  A registration form is enclosed which needs to be completed and mailed back to the Registrar's Office one week prior to the program.  We need to know the student's major, minor, areas of interests, transfer credits, AP or CLEP credits, if they will be an athlete, foreign language preference and time preference so that we can provide them with an appropriate schedule of classes.  A self-addressed envelope is included for your convenience.  The admissions deposit also needs to be paid in advance (see item No. 1 on the Admissions Acceptance Agreement).  Deposits are accepted on a space availability basis.

Student Packet:

Upon arrival, students will receive a packet of information that includes the following:

  • A worksheet that outlines the requirements of their major
  • An Area Distribution Requirements sheet
  • A Minor Facts Brochure
  • An Academic Calendar for the year
  • An information sheet from the Information Technology Department
  • A Bookstore Textbook Reservation Form
  • MBA Dual Degree brochure
  • Registration Procedures sheet
  • Student Schedule Information sheet
  • How To Get Involved (student activities) sheet 

Parent Packet:

The parents will also receive their own packet of information which includes the following:
