Fitness Center Guidelines

  1. York College students, faculty, staff and their guests with proper access privileges are allowed to use the fitness center.
  2. ALL users must complete a fitness center orientation prior to use.
  3. Individuals must be 15 or older to utilize fitness center. Any users under 17 must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult at all times. Direct supervision is defined by being engaged in activity with him/her.
  4. Bags and backpacks should be locked in lockers or left in cubbies outside the entrance. Bags or backpacks should not be taken past the fitness center check-in desk.
  5. Only closed toe athletic shoes are permitted.
  6. Jeans and casual pants/shorts (khaki) are not permitted.
  7. To minimize skin-to-upholstery contact, full shirts must be worn at all times. Sports bras and tank tops are not permitted in any area at any time.
  8. “Homemade” t-shirts (w/ marker, pen, etc.) are not permitted.
  9. Please be courteous to other users and refrain from foul language, inappropriate/offensive actions and conversations.
  10. Towel service is provided through the equipment room located on the lower level of the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center.
  11. Please wipe down the equipment following use with the provided wipes.
  12. All open wounds or infectious skin diseases should be covered at all times.
  13. Intermittent cleanup may occur at any time for safety/sanitary reasons. Staff members have the authority to stop all activities at any time until the situation is corrected.
  14. Only clear water is permitted and must be kept in a closed plastic container. All other drinks (including sports drinks and protein shakes) food, gum, tobacco and glass are prohibited.
  15. Users should follow all instructions regarding proper use of the equipment and use all equipment only for its intended purpose(s).
  16. Be courteous to other users by working efficiently between sets and allowing others to work in.  
  17. Workouts on cardio machines should be limited to 30 minutes.
  18. When not in use, return all weights to the proper racks and strip all bars upon completion of sets.
  19. Do not rest bars or dumbbells on benches between sets.
  20. Never place feet on benches.
  21. Weights, bars, plates, etc. should not be leaned against walls, machines, benches, or propped in any corners.
  22. For your safety, the use of spotters, collars and safety bars are recommended.
  23. Chalk is not permitted anywhere in the fitness center.
  24. Cell phone use is prohibited past the Fitness Center desk.
  25. At this time the use of personal trainers is not permitted in the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center, nor are fitness center monitors allowed to prescribe an exercise routine/workout for users.

 ** If a user violates a rule, then a GSFC staff member will, in a diplomatic manner, inform the participant of the infraction and ask them to correct the situation. If the user refuses or becomes abusive, the staff member will call the Building Supervisor. An incident report will be done and a review of the report will be conducted to decide on consequences. **
