Internships are an important part of an undergraduate education at York College. All students have the opportunity to participate in an internship upon completion of 60 college credits. These internships provide 3-6 credit hours towards a degree program.

11. Is it necessary for freshman to declare a major upon entering York College?

While many first year students will select a program of study, a significant number each year begin their studies at York as undeclared majors. Most baccalaureate programs can be completed in four years should a student not decide upon a major until their sophomore year. The Career Services Center is an excellent resource for those students who need assistance in evaluating and comparing career options.

Approximately 68% of York's freshman will complete their undergraduate degree in four years.

13. What support services does the college offer for the student who may need help with a particularly demanding course?

York's small classroom setting allows students the opportunity to easily converse with faculty before, during, and after class. This accessibility coupled with liberal office hours encourages students to seek faculty assistance with academic questions and problems. If needed, tutorials can be arranged through the Learning Resource Center which is open more than 60 hours a week.

14. Is it advisable for a freshman to bring a computer, and if s/he does, can the computer be utilized from the student's dorm room?

Although freshmen are not required to bring a personal computer, many York students will include a computer among their dorm room furnishings. From their dorm room, students can access the "information highway" through the York College network. For those students who elect not to bring a computer to college, York's Information Technology Department provides students with a wide range of computer hardware/software options.
