- Update on Student Loans -

If you have heard rumors AES/Pheaa will no longer be involved in providing student loans, they are NOT true. AES/Pheaa will continue to assist students with student loans and other funding such as the PA State Grant. More details can be found on their website at www.aessuccess.org.

AES/Pheaa has announced they will not act as a lender of student loans for next year. However, they will continue to be a Guarantor and a Servicer of loans, since there are many other banks and lending institutions still participating in the program. This means if you chose AES/Pheaa as the lender of your 2007-08 Federal Stafford Loan, you will need to choose another lender and sign a new Promissory Note (MPN) for the 2008-09 academic year. You can do so online at www.aessuccess.org or AES/Pheaa will be mailing a new MPN to you along with a lender list. You can also obtain information about other lender options at www.elmselect.com.

It is also possible to obtain a Federal Student Loan through the Federal Direct Student Loan Program. The Direct Loan is funded by the U.S. Department of Education instead of a bank or other lending institution. For more information, go to their website at www.ed.gov/directloan or contact the Financial Aid Office.

In short, do not panic. Student Loans are still available to assist you in funding your education. The Financial Aid Office is also available to answer any questions you may have about the student loan program.
