Reading Specialization

Our reading program can ready you to promote literacy development among your students or advance in your career as a literacy coach. Your studies will include the foundations of reading instruction, childhood and adolescent literature, literacy program development, and clinical practicums in reading. Pursuing this option will also allow you to apply for the Pennsylvania PK-12 Reading Specialist Certificate. Our program faculty will guide you every step of the way. They include some of the most talented, dynamic, and respected administrators in the area. Our program quality is demonstrated by the large number of alumni who are currently working as teachers and literacy coaches in schools and districts in South Central Pennsylvania and beyond.

We welcome all teachers who possess a valid teaching certification to complete our free online application. After submitting your application (see our application procedures for guidance), you will be contacted and asked to submit supplemental materials including, a valid teaching certification, undergraduate transcripts, letters of recommendation, a resume, and an employment verification letter.

  • Credit requirements

    The Masters of Education – Reading degree with the PA Reading Specialist Certificate can be completed in 36 credits. Students earn the certification as a stand-alone program in 24 credits.
