A Master of Education degree at York College prepares you to be a K-12 principal

Areas of specialty

Tailor your master's degree to exactly what you want to do with your career
  • Educational Leadership

    Educational Leadership

The Educational Leadership specialization prepares educators for positions of administrative leadership in the public or private school setting leading to Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification as a K-12 Principal.

Candidates in the Educational Leadership program must complete a one-semester (three credit) administrative internship. A two-semester (two credits each semester) option is also available. As much as the internship is a capstone experience for the program, the candidate must complete all course requirements prior to beginning the internship. An Administrative Internship Manual may be obtained from the coordinator of the Educational Leadership program.

  • Reading Specialist

    Reading Specialist

The Reading Specialist specialization provides educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to become certified as K-12 Reading Specialists.

Candidates in the Reading Specialist program must complete two semesters (six credits) of practicum experience. All reading specialization courses must be completed prior to the first semester of reading practicum. Reading practica are completed following completion of specialization coursework. Updated clearances (within one year of practicum) are required for practicum experience completed in local districts. Guidelines for reading practicum will be provided by a program advisor.

  • Master of Educational Technology

    NEW: Master of Educational Technology

With school districts increasing funding for one-to-one initiatives, online learning, and other technological advances, it's more important than ever for teachers to build their technology skills. Our new Educational Technology Specialization is designed to help you capitalize on emerging technologies. Pursuing this option will also allow you to apply for the Pennsylvania PK-12 Instructional Technology Specialist Certificate or the PK-12 Online Teaching Endorsement and can position you to advance in your career into positions of technology leadership and development.

Our program faculty are talented technology practitioners, ready to help you build your capabilities in ways that will help you be effective in the classroom and to assume new technology-based leadership roles.
