Rachel Fowler ’11 (Pasadena, Md.) enjoys mentoring nursing graduates.
Rachel, a nursing grad and registered nurse at Baltimore Washington Medical Center, is a preceptor for four new nurses.
“It is rewarding to watch them develop their nursing skills and succeed as nurses,” she said.
In addition to her work with new nurses, Rachel works on a medical/surgical unit specializing in oncology and hospice care. She received her unit’s nurse of the year award for 2013.
“I also obtained my chemotherapy provider card and am certified to administer chemotherapy,” she said.
Rachel admired all of her York College nursing professors, but it was Julie Beck who was most memorable.
“Her enthusiasm for the profession and constant encouragement helped me succeed,” she said.
Rachel reminds nursing students to always keep in mind what brought them to the major in the first place.
“Nursing is hard,” she added, “but the knowledge, life lessons and rewards from caring for patients is immeasurable.”
