Amber Nelson ’09 (Marriottsville, Md.) is caring for patients all over the country as a travel nurse.
After graduating with a Nursing degree, Amber gained two years of experience at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
“Working at such a prestigious hospital has made it easier to work all over the country,” she said.
Amber is currently employed with Aureus Medical Group, a nationwide medical staffing and travel nursing company, working as a telemetry, medical/surgical and intermediate care nurse.
“I’ve had the opportunity to travel to Louisville (Ky.), Palm Springs (Calif.) and San Diego (Calif.) for work,” she said. “Most recently, I was in my goal location of Honolulu (Hawaii). I am grateful to be able to meet and help so many people all over the country.”
As a nursing student at York College, Amber gained a lot from her nursing clinical experiences.
“Every day I use that knowledge to overcome challenges,” she said.
Linda Pugh, Ph.D., and Julie Beck, D.Ed., are both memorable professors that Amber encountered during her time at York College.
“Dr. Pugh and Dr. Beck are both very passionate about their nursing careers and are committed to making YCP nursing students the best nurses they can be,” she said.
In addition to learning from their professors, Amber advises current students to network, apply for jobs early, shadow prospective jobs and get experience.
“While focusing on nursing is important, it is also important to enjoy your time at YCP,” she added. “Get involved and take advantage of the campus activities.”
