Matthew Blaszka ’07 (Bloomington, Ind)., a sport management major, has accomplished a lot since his graduation from York College.
He continued his education at Georgia State University and graduated in May 2011 with an M.S. in sport administration. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate for sport management at Indiana University and is expected to graduate in 2014.
Matthew was the first M.S. sport administration student at Georgia State to complete a thesis. His thesis was an examination of sport consumers’ Twitter usage. Matthew also interned at Georgia State University as a graduate research assistant under the direction of Beth Cianfrone, Ph.D., while completing his master’s.
Matthew credits much of his success to his mentor, Tim Newman, Ph.D. Newman has “guided [him] to the path [he] is currently on which is becoming a professor at the university.”
Matthew advises students to “network, network, network!” He ensures students that the people you know will help you to move in the direction that you would like to go.
To this day, you can still find Matthew back at York once a year when he meets current students who are looking to begin a career in the sport management field.
“Meeting current students who have ambition to be a part of the sport business world is always gratifying to me,” he added.
