Abby Wiseman ’13 (Hanover, Pa.) touches the lives of incredible people as an autistic support teacher.
Abby, an elementary/special education grad, works with students with disabilities in York, Adams and Franklin Counties through Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12.
“One of the students I had during student teaching was nonverbal,” said Abby. “When I came back to visit this classroom, she grabbed my hand to hold it. She normally doesn’t interact with others due to her disability. Her gesture let me know I made a difference in her life.”
Abby recognizes that working in special education isn’t easy, but reminds students looking to enter the field to stay strong and know that the hard work is for children that need the most help. This will help to overcome any obstacles.
“I am privileged to touch so many,” she added. “I’ve chosen an amazing career.”
