Rachel Bailey ’11 (Lancaster, Pa.) grew up watching the TV station she now provides content for.
Rachel, a mass communication grad, is the nightside digital editor at WGAL, the NBC affiliate in Lancaster, Pa. In the evenings she creates new content for wgal.com, as well as manages the TV station’s social media accounts.
“At the risk of sounding lame, my biggest accomplishment thus far is landing the job at WGAL,” she said. “Since it was my dream station to work for, I feel extremely proud to be working here.”
Rachel is following in the footsteps of her mentor at York College, Professor Lowell Briggs, who also worked for WGAL during his long career.
“Having so much experience in the news business, Professor Briggs was easily able to provide me with real world examples not only during class, but outside of class,” she said. “I felt like he really did care about me and my future, and I really appreciated that.”
Rachel, who started her career at a station in Virginia, reminds students to not be afraid to start small, because “you may not have a choice.”
“Also, be aggressive,” she added. “Good journalists are not the shy type, hiding in the corner waiting for a story (or job) to come to them.”
