Olivia Castriota ’12 (Brooklyn, N.Y.) received more than 1,000 hits in less than a week on her blog about the best food in New York City.

Olivia, a Mass Communication grad, started her blog “Confessions of a Hungry White Girl” when she moved to NYC to intern at Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock’s production company, Warrior Poets.

“Don’t be afraid to intern after graduation,” she said. “Sometimes you have to work for free to show the employer you are so amazing that you need to be part of the team.”

Before graduating from York, Olivia also interned for the Dr. Oz Show.

“The show really prepared me for life after graduation in New York City,” she said.

Her experience at York College has enabled Olivia to live a busy post-grad life with ease, which also includes a part-time job at a restaurant to pay the bills.

“YCP taught me how to juggle a lot of things at once,” she said. “It has been easy for me to intern, work and keep up with my blog.”

She advises current students to dream big and not to be afraid to intern after graduation.

“If you work for free for two months, do an amazing job, then they will have no choice but to hire you,” she added.
