Secondary Education Mathematics Major

The Secondary Education Mathematics major at is a true partnership program. First, we believe that a professional teacher must have a strong foundation in the theory and practice of both education and mathematics. The Education Department offers a curriculum based on developing the skills and techniques which research has shown produces effective teaching and learning. The mathematics curriculum provides a broad basis of mathematics theory presented in secondary schools. This includes an appreciation of the historical and cultural factors that represent mathematics as an ongoing human activity.

Career opportunities lie in various school districts working directly with children, families, groups and communities.

Christopher Detwiler ’00 Christopher Detwiler ’00 (York, Pa.) found that his educational and athletic experiences at York College allowed him to find his passion for not only teaching, but coaching as well.

After graduating from York College with his degree in Secondary Education, Christopher was hired by Red Lion Area School District where he taught for five years in the high school.
