Chemistry class at York College of Pennsylvania

Physical Sciences

Analytical. Thoughtful. Investigative. The traits that have made you excel in science classes your whole life now can be used to help you push toward a high-demand career.

Using lab-driven experiences under the guidance of expert faculty, we hone your problem-solving and research skills as well as technical proficiency starting your freshman year. The results? Graduates who are working in places such as GlaxoSmithKline, BAE Systems, the FBI and more. The possibilities in this field are vast: pharmaceuticals, teaching, forensic chemistry, aeronautics, research, and more.

When it’s time for graduation, motivated students will already have co-ops and internships under his or her belt, connections in the industry, and familiarity with the same kind of modern lab equipment and software used by professionals.

York College chemistry students working on a project
Hands-on work is everywhere in Physical Sciences. It's one reason our graduates are so well-prepared to enter the job market.
Radiography, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Lab and Respiratory are all Allied Health degrees at York College

Interested in a career in medicine? Allied Health

Our cross-disciplinary Allied Health program runs in coordination with Physical Sciences and Biological Sciences departments. It offers hands-on, clinical lab experience in professional areas distinct from medicine, dentistry, and nursing, with nearby York Hospital offering the perfect setting to learn.

Physical Sciences Laboratory Facilities

Our students report back that what they use in our labs is as good or better than what they see outside of the classroom, with more than $1 million invested in equipment. That’s the kind of preparation that will make you an ideal job candidate from day one. Math classes are often taught in rooms with smartboards or computer labs to increase interactivity.

Student Opportunities and Experiences

Research projects
Chemistry faculty are active in cutting-edge research and involve Chemistry majors throughout their collegiate careers; students have presented at the national American Chemical Society conference. Math majors regularly aid faculty in research efforts on topics such as number theory, cryptography, combinatorics and more.
Affiliations and Connections
We partner with local and regional facilities to give you access to real-world experiences. York Hospital and Reading Hospital are our official affiliates for medical laboratory science majors. We also have strong working relationships with York County’s renowned industrial community, and secondary science or math education majors will get student teaching experience in local schools.
Work and play
We recognize an outstanding senior each year with the Cayce Senior Math Award, which comes with a $500 prize. Math majors know how to have fun, too — our Math Club offers a chance to socialize.
