Students learn nursing skills in labs located in Diehl Hall. They practice on simulators, task trainers, and sometimes on their classmates!
Students benefit from practicing a skill in the lab before they perform it on an actual patient - and the patient benefits by receiving safe care. Examples of skills learned in the lab:
Critical Care LabThis 4-bed critical care lab is equipped with Space Labs patient monitor, defibrillator, ventilator, ECG machines, and intravenous infusion pumps.
Nursing Skills LabAll 8 beds are equipped with otoscope, ophthalmoscope, sphygmomanometer, oxygen, suction, sharps disposal container, and bedside cart stocked with supplies.
SimMan LabSimMan, a high fidelity simulator, and Anne, a mid-fidelity simulator, enable students to practice realistic situations. Located in temporary lab space.
The maternal child skills lab contains Noelle, a full size child birth simulator who delivers a full size baby as well as Baby Hal and MegaCode Kid. Located in temporary lab space.
The Media Lab has five viewing stations. Students come here to watch videos or check out practice kits.
The Diehl Hall computer lab contains 44 stations. Student often work together in this room on group projects.
