A knowledge of the past provides us, collectively and individually, with a better sense of who we are and where we are heading. The study of history sharpens our skills as thinkers, writers and as citizens. The fact that many corporate presidents, lawyers, judges, journalists and politicians have majored in history is evidence of the usefulness of the skills acquired by history majors. These skills include writing and presenting information; analyzing ideas, data and information; examining evidence including documents, texts and interviews; and seeing connections and making decisions and reflective judgments.
