Spanish Education Major

The Spanish Education major is designed to prepare students for a career in teaching Spanish at any level from kindergarten through grade 12. Our major includes coursework in General Education, English and Humanities, Spanish, literature and culture and professional preparation, as well a professional semester of student teaching. This major also provides instruction and practical experiences in determining effective instructional approaches in teaching the five skill areas of foreign language: listening comprehension, speaking, reading, writing and cultural competence.

 

Careers in Spanish Education

Career opportunities for graduates in Spanish Education are varied. Students work in various school districts dealing directly with children, families, groups and communities.

Career options may include any of the following paths:

  • High School Spanish Teacher

  • Spanish Language Instructor

Alumni Story

Amanda Zimmerman ‌‌Amanda Zimmerman ‘06 (York, Pa.) attributes much of her current success to the many outstanding professors she studied with at York College.

With dual degrees in Spanish and secondary education English, Amanda went on to become a Spanish teacher at Northeastern High School in Manchester, Pa., where she also serves as a curriculum council member, National Spanish Honor Society advisor and chair of world languages, among other roles.
