Secondary Education General Science Major

The Secondary Education General Science major provides a foundation in theory and practice in science and education. Students select one of three specialization areas – biology, chemisty and physics – and are required to complete six to eight credits in that area. Students are also encouraged to become members in professional organizations, attend science and educational conferences, do reading in science journals and view non-print science media to provide depth.

Career opportunities lie in various school districts working directly with children, families, groups and communities.

Alumni Story

Amanda Zimmerman Amanda Zimmerman ‘06 (York, Pa.) attributes much of her current success to the many outstanding professors she studied with at York College.

With dual degrees in Spanish and secondary education English, Amanda went on to become a Spanish teacher at Northeastern High School in Manchester, Pa., where she also serves as a curriculum council member, National Spanish Honor Society advisor and chair of world languages, among other roles.
