Secondary Education Biology Major

Our Secondary Education Biology majors become excellent biology educators. Our majors depend on a close association between the Department of Biological Sciences and the Department of Education. The curriculum offers the student the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in mathematics and science with course emphasis in the biological sciences. Our major also encourages the student to explore the process of learning based on current research in effective teaching and learning theory, especially as applied to biology education.

Career opportunities lie in various school districts working directly with children, families, groups and communities.

Alumni Story

Amanda Zimmerman Amanda Zimmerman ‘06 (York, Pa.) attributes much of her current success to the many outstanding professors she studied with at York College.

With dual degrees in Spanish and secondary education English, Amanda went on to become a Spanish teacher at Northeastern High School in Manchester, Pa., where she also serves as a curriculum council member, National Spanish Honor Society advisor and chair of world languages, among other roles.
