Student teaching through the York College education program

Be a part of a teacher preparation program that values getting you in the classroom early and often.

We firmly believe the best teachers are the products of the best preparation. At York College, that means a heavy emphasis on developing critical thinking and decision-making skills so you can handle any classroom situation, plus a deep understanding of human growth and development.

We give intense focus to making you confident and ready for obtaining your teacher certification. And you’ll regularly be working in classrooms before you graduate, giving you connections to potential employers and a feel for what you want to teach. You’ll wrap up your York College career with a semester of student teaching, where you’ll eventually be a leader in the classroom. We’re proud to offer content-focused majors special education-focused majors, as well as tracks in the sciences, math, English, Spanish and more. We’re the ideal school if you crave individualized attention by expert faculty, extensive field experiences, and a school that develops new teachers who are passionate about nurturing young learners.

York College's education majors get hundreds of hours of field experience and student teaching completed before graduation.
Education majors get the opportunity for dozens of hours of student teaching experience.
All of our majors, such as Early Elementary/Special Education, get to go out into area schools for invaluable hands-on experience.

Getting into the classroom Field Experience and Student Teaching

Our Office of Field Services is dedicated to getting you in the classroom. It’s where you take what you learned in our classrooms and test it out in the real world. And by the end of senior year, you’ll have spent a semester as a student teacher — invaluable experience with incredible memories.
Develop a passion for education like Dan Werbeck '10, who is now a science teacher.
