During Summer 2011, the Appell Life Sciences Building was renovated and transformed into a highly functional teaching and learning area. In addition to previous laboratory spaces being updated, one additional laboratory was added. Multiple specialty spaces (tissue culture suite, microscopy lab, walk-in cold room), additional research and preparation spaces, and student and faculty conference rooms were also added.
The Naylor Ecological Sciences Center opened Fall 2011. This visually stunning and functional three story structure added two new teaching/research labs (aquatic and terrestrial laboratories), a large aquaria space, a controlled growth chamber, research spaces and is topped by five glasshouses. This impressive building is dedicated to Irvin S. Naylor who generously supported the construction of the new addition to the Biological Sciences department.
