Engineering Cooperative Education (Co-op)
York College engineering programs require three semesters of cooperative work experience at local, regional, or national companies. The co-op semesters alternate with academic semesters over the last two years of study. York College provides placement services for the engineering co-op students as well as for the program graduates. All engineering students are paid at professional rates and are assigned real-life engineering tasks while on co-op. In addition to helping each student prepare for more sophisticated academic work, the co-op experience also gives the engineering students:
Electrical and Computer Engineering Cooperative Education (Co-op)
York College enjoys a close, active, and mutually beneficial relationship with regional industry. Our Industry Advisory Council (IAC) provides support to our programs in numerous ways by acting as a liaison between industry and the college. Part of its charter is to provide co-op opportunities for York's engineering students. Members of the IAC include:
Chemistry
An internship experience offers chemistry students the opportunity to gain insight into the practical application of chemistry in the workplace. It brings an added dimension to the course matter offered in the college curriculum and affords the students a better foundation to assess and confirm their interests in chemistry. Students with internship experience are clearer in their goals and interests and have a more enriching educational experience.
Companies also benefit from internships in that they have access to bright young minds capable of bringing valuable independent perspectives on challenging projects. They also get an early look at potentially promising young talent that might turn out to be future employment candidates.
ComputerScience
York College's computing programs maintain a close relationship with many area businesses, which offers unique opportunities for students' career development. Many internships are available in the areas of programming, networking, WWW site development, analysis and design, training, database development and application, and application programming. A number of the internships are rolling-internships that take new student interns when existing internships end. This link facilitates ongoing assessment of the program as well as developing student capabilities.
