Hands-On Engineering

All York College engineering majors are required to complete a number of engineering design projects as members of a design team. Engineering design projects begin in the freshman year as part of the EPADS I and EPADS II courses and finish in the senior year as part of Senior Design I, and Senior Design II courses.

The projects are generated from current technical needs of the IAC or are competitions sponsored by various technical societies and/or agencies. Projects generally include creative conception, design, fabrication, testing, and performance of a physical system or component. Written reports and oral presentations are generally required, the latter being made before a group of faculty, students, project sponsors, parents, and visiting evaluators from local industry.

EPADS (Engineering Practice and Design Studio)
The plan of study for freshmen engineering students at York College includes a unique two-course sequence intended to provide a set of basic engineering skills as well as knowledge and understanding of what engineers do and "how they think." Students work as members of an engineering team on design projects with real deliverables, they learn how to communicate within and beyond their team, and learn about the real world of engineering design.

Nuclear Medicine Technology
The Nuclear Medicine Technology program at York College is part of a consortium composed of area hospitals and colleges. The student spends the first three years of the four-year program completing courses at York College. During the junior year, application is made to the consortium for the final clinical year of the program. Acceptance into the clinical year is not guaranteed. The senior year is spent at the hospital assigned, working in a nuclear medicine department three days a week and attending classes one day each week at the consortium educational building in Lancaster, PA.

Clinical Laboratory Science
The senior year takes place in a hospital school of Clinical Laboratory Science. Many hospitals will employ their clinical students in the laboratory on a part-time basis. Additionally, staff openings in the laboratory of that hospital will often be filled by graduating seniors of their programs.

Respiratory Care
Students in the Respiratory Care program may choose a clinical specialty in their last year. They are perform a research project in their senior year.

Mathematics
Students majoring in mathematics or with strong backgrounds in mathematics are encouraged to become math tutors at the College's Learning Resource Center. Tutoring various concepts and skills reinforces and enhances the tutor's understanding while benefiting peers.
