The professional nurse is now challenged by increasingly complex treatment modalities.

Baccalaureate Degree Completion Program Via Telecommunications

The Faculty in the Department of Nursing at York College have been committed to facilitating the opportunity for RN's to complete a BS with a major in Nursing since the nursing program was established in 1978. Following initial accreditation by The National League for Nursing in the Spring of 1982, a program of advanced placement was begun to facilitate the progress of RN's who wish to obtain the baccalaureate degree.

The program for RN's offers flexibility, acceptance of transfer courses earned prior to admission, opportunity to take courses at other institutions, opportunity to apply work experience as an RN to nursing credits, and the ability to earn credit through CLEP, ACT-PEP and NLN examinations.

Telecommunication courses in nursing offer the RN the additional advantage of avoiding extensive travel while attending school. The combination of telecommunication courses, credit by examination, and clinicals offered in selected geographic areas, offers a highly flexible method for busy professionals to earn a degree in their field of expertise.

Each participating hospital has a site coordinator who is responsible for the logistical aspects of the program. Every semester, York College will conduct an on-site registration during which student advising and textbook sales will be conducted. When clinical courses begin, the clinical component of the nursing courses will be made available at health care facilities in the local geographic area of each site. The College will employ clinical preceptors who will conduct the clinical portion of the courses. The preceptors are overseen by a number of the York College nursing faculty.
