Types Of Admission

There are three types of admission classifications in the MBA program:

Degree Candidate

Students who have satisfactorily met all entrance requirements and desire to pursue a Master of Business Administration degree will be admitted as matriculated degree candidates. To be accepted as a degree candidate, applicants must achieve 1000 admission points based on the following formula: 200 times the cumulative undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) plus the GMAT score; i.e. (200 X UGPA) + GMAT ≥ 1000 points. The UGPA is the average (on a 0.00 - 4.00 scale) of those courses completed by the applicant to earn their first baccalaureate degree. The highest GMAT score attained by the applicant is used in the admission formula.

Conditional Student

Conditional status is conferred in the following situations: 1) students who wish to begin graduate work but have not yet taken the GMAT; 2) students who have not met the admission requirements but are admitted on a conditional basis. Conditional students may take no more than four 510-level or above courses (12 credits). A conditional student may convert to degree candidate status by submitting a written request to the MBA Program Office. In order to do so, students must meet all admission requirements, including the GMAT and have at least a 3.0 cumulative graduate GPA at the time they apply for regular admission. Students admitted on a conditional basis must meet all the terms and conditions listed above in order to be considered.

Non-Degree Student

A non-degree student is one who is not pursuing the MBA degree and taking only those graduate level courses that meet his/her professional development or personal needs. Students who wish to take a course to be transferred to another college or university should also apply for nondegree admission status.

Dual Degree Program for York College Undergraduates Only

The Dual Degree program is designed to provide exceptional undergraduate students with the opportunity to begin their graduate studies while finishing work on their undergraduate degree. Dual degree students are permitted to take up to 9 credits of graduate course work in their senior year and apply those credits to their baccalaureate degree. Dual degree students are limited to taking 9 credits of graduate courses prior to receiving their undergraduate degree. Dual degree applications should be submitted directly to the MBA coordinator. Dual degree students must meet the admission requirements listed below.

Admission Procedures for the Dual Degree Program

1. Undergraduate students may apply for admission when they have satisfactorily completed 75 credits. Normally, this is the spring of the junior year. This would allow the student to begin their graduate work in the fall of the senior year (or the summer prior to the senior year).

2. Undergraduates with a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher and have submitted two recommendation forms by individuals with professional or academic backgrounds, and a Statement of Academic Goals, will automatically be admitted to the Dual Degree program.

3. Transfer students may apply for admission to the Dual Degree program when they have accumulated 75 total credits and have successfully completed 15 credits at York College of Pennsylvania. The GMAT may be waived if both the York College GPA and the cumulative GPA from the prior institution are 3.4 or higher.

4. Students who have already earned one baccalaureate degree (but may be pursuing a second degree or second major) are not eligible for the Dual Degree program.

Once the baccalaureate degree is earned and the student wishes to continue in the MBA program, the student’s status will convert to a degree candidate.

Application of Graduate Courses to the Undergraduate Curriculum

Upon admission to the Dual Degree program, students will be assigned to a graduate advisor who will help them to design a program of study that meets their needs. The student’s undergraduate advisor will work with the graduate advisor to determine how the graduate courseswill fit into the student’s undergraduate program. The general guideline is that the graduate credits taken will be those in the MBA Core and will be applied to the "Free Electives" portion of the undergraduate curriculum. In cases where the free electives are filled, or where free electives are used to fulfill the requirements of an undergraduate minor, advisors will determine how the MBA courses can be applied to the student’s undergraduate program. Advisors in the Business Administration Department have adopted a list of appropriate course substitutions and will use that list as a basis for student advising.

Academic Requirements

Once accepted into the Dual Degree program, students are required to maintain a 3.0 average in all courses (both graduate and undergraduate) taken while in the Dual Degree program. Students who do not earn at least a 3.0 average in all courses taken while a dual degree student will be discontinued from the Dual Degree program. Undergraduate students discontinued from the program may apply to the MBA program after receiving the baccalaureate degree and must meet all admission requirements.

Tuition for Dual Degree Program

Undergraduate students enrolled in the Dual Degree program are eligible to take up to 9 graduate credits (three courses) as part of the undergraduate curriculum. Up to 9 graduate credits (three courses) will be included as part of the undergraduate tuition. Once the student has completed three graduate courses, or earns the baccalaureate degree, all subsequent MBA courses are billed at the graduate tuition rate.
