Music Facilities
The study of music at York College is enhanced by the facilities in Wolf Hall. This state-of-the-art facility houses the Divisions of Music, Art and Communication, and has become the center for artistic activity on campus.
The building features many unique spaces for the study and performance of music, including a recital hall, rehearsal rooms, practice rooms, private teaching studios, computer technology and music listening laboratories, audio recording studios, music libraries and music and music education classrooms.
At the heart of the music facilities is the Recital Hall, located in Wolf Hall. This beautiful space is acoustically dynamic, and is used for performances and special presentations by music students, music faculty and many other guest performers.
Music Auditions
Acceptance into the Division of Music for any of our three degree programs is by music audition only. The audition for Music Performance and General Music Education applicants is particularly important, as both degrees stress the development of strong musicianship and performance skills. Although the Music Industry and Recording Technology degree is technically oriented, the curriculum includes an important music studies component. Thus, an audition for acceptance into this degree program is also required to determine if the applicant has the necessary music background and experience to be successful in the pursuit of this degree.
All auditions should be well prepared, demonstrating music reading skills, appropriate repertoire for one's instrument or voice classification, performance skill and proper stage presence.
For more information about specific audition requirements, the audition application form, audition dates and music scholarship eligibility requirements, please contact Dr. Frederick Schreiner, Director, Division of Music. See below under Admission Procedures for specific contact information.

Financial Assistance In Music
Music scholarships are awarded to music majors who have excelled in the area of music performance. Students are selected on the basis of their music audition, three letters of recommendation, their personal statement and academic achievement. The scholarships vary in amount according to the quality of the audition and the need of the recipient as established by the Financial Aid Office.
There are a variety of academic scholarships that are available to music students, most notably, the Dean's Scholarship (one-third tuition) and the Presidential Scholarship (one-half tuition). These scholarships are competitive, and are based on SAT scores, high school GPA and class standing.
In addition, the Division of Music regularly uses qualified work-study students. Applicants interested in work-study positions must contact the Financial Aid Office to determine eligibility.
