Business Administration
General InformationYork College of Pennsylvania and the Department of Business Administration are proud to offer degree programs designed to help graduates stand out among the pool of competitive job seekers. Businesses in tomorrow's competitive environment are seeking candidates that not only have basic business skills, but are also able to adapt to, interpret, and understand the new world order. The economies of the world are interdependent. It is not enough to know that economic recessions or expansions are occurring throughout the world's nations. Today's business executive must know how those economic changes will effect both domestic and international environments in which the company operates. The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Business Administration allows a student to gain a broad-based background in business while specializing in at least one field of interest. This major is especially beneficial to the students who are planning on owning or operating a small business, pursuing the dual-degree (BS/MBA), or are undecided on a specific field of business in which they wish to specialize. With its flexibility, the Business Administration major allows students to pursue multiple minors within and outside the business department.
Career Opportunities
Business Administration majors have diverse career opportunities available to them. They are well-prepared to enter corporate management training programs in banking, manufacturing, and retail management. Majors are also qualified for entry-level management positions in service organizations such as hospitals, nursing homes, large medical and legal practices, and nonprofit organizations. More specific opportunities are available to those students who pursue the various management minors. For example, students with a Human Resource Management minor are qualified for jobs dealing with employee recruitment, training, compensation and benefit administration, and labor relations. The Operations minor is useful for careers in direct supervision, purchasing, logistics, inventory management, and quality management. Students who aspire to develop or operate their own business enterprises will find that the minor in Entrepreneurship Studies will provide them with the skills and knowledge that are crucial to successful small business operation.
