Academics
Communication students are encouraged to gain insightful knowledge about the "real world" through internships. An internship is defined as an elective educational experience that either enhances professional preparation or expands opportunities for liberal arts graduates. York College of Pennsylvania's prime location permits accessibility to internships in Washington D.C., Harrisburg, Baltimore and South Central Pennsylvania.

Student Eligibility Requirements
Students must meet several criteria to earn academic credit for internships:

  • Student must have a GPA of 2.5 or better.
  • Student must have a minimum of 60 earned credits.
  • Student must receive the recommendation of communication faculty.

Academic Credit
Eligible students may receive academic credit for an approved internship. A minimum of 135 hours "on-site" is required in order to earn 3 credits in a given semester. Communication students may complete a maximum of 6 credits of internship as part of a bachelor's degree program.

Internship Search Information and Resources Many students discover internship opportunities in the Career Weekly, which is found in the lobbies of all the academic buildings and the administration building. Communication advisors are also well informed about internship openings and are extremely helpful in aiding students to secure and complete the internship. Faculty encourage students to pursue internships during their junior and senior years at York College. Students find opportunities local, regional and national television and radio stations as well as public relations experiences in local and state organizations.
