Located inside Wolf Hall, the television studio comprises two state-of-the-art video production facilities coordinated by a high-tech computer assisted room. Students can excel in both production capabilities and creative endeavors using the latest PC based nonlinear editing software.
Communication students learn the intricate skills necessary for today's fast-paced media world in the fully operational News Studio. It includes a news set, interview areas, a cooking set, and weather capabilities. The facilities also include up-to-date audio, three off-line edit sites, and a modern switcher that aids in advanced video applications.
WVYC Radio and Audio Production Facilities
The department operates an extensive radio broadcasting and audio production facility. All students regardless of major, may participate in the operation of the station.
The WVYC studios consist of an AM and FM broadcast control room, an instructional production control room, and a recording studio with an adjacent control room. The station is operated entirely by students under the supervision of longtime faculty advisor and station founder, Mr. Thomas K. Gibson.
WVYC, largest student organization on the campus, has been in operation for more than 35 years, and has been recognized many times by the York College student senate as "An Outstanding Student Organization".
The station broadcasts to a large portion of York County and beyond, on an FCC assigned frequency of 99.7 MHz. Music programming is eclectic in nature, and includes many contemporary and alternative rock formats. We also broadcast a wide variety of news, sports, public service and educational programming. Students may participate in all of the station's activities such as management, programming, production and on-air announcing.
WVYC-AM broadcasts to the campus on a frequency of 640 KHz and on channel seven of the college cable television system. Like its twin, WVYC-FM, the AM station carries a full complement of programs, and is operated by interested students.
Both stations stream audio on the Internet. The links to listen can be found on the station web page.
Studios and control rooms are also used for instruction in courses such as Radio and Audio Production classes. Students learn both analog and digital editing recording techniques in this facility.
