I am pleased to learn that you are looking for a college home where you can continue your music studies. Your accomplishments are many, and I want to encourage you to follow your dreams at York College. We offer three liberal arts degrees and two music minors to help you achieve your goals and fulfill your ambitions.
Bachelor of Arts in Music
This degree allows students to engage in strong music studies, emphasizing performance within the context of a liberal arts curriculum. Graduates are well qualified to pursue careers in a number of musical areas, including performance and private studio teaching. Many graduates also choose to continue studying music in graduate school.
Bachelor of Science in General Music Education
This degree leads to full certification in general music education, allowing graduates to teach in public or private schools. The degree is fully accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Many other states in the York College recruiting region accept Pennsylvania certification for teaching.
Bachelor of Science in Music
(with studies in Music Industry and Recording Technology [MIRT])
This degree is a well balanced program combining studies in music, music industry, business, and recording technology. It is designed to provide graduates with the judgment and understanding necessary to embrace one or all of the many roles of a music producer. The successful producer is an accomplished musician who is involved in many aspects of the creation, recording, and marketing of music.
Acceptance into each of the three programs requires a music audition, at which the prospective student must demonstrate his or her performing abilities. In addition to these degrees, the Division of Music offers minors in Music and in Music Industry.
At York College, opportunities to perform abound. Our ensembles range from the College Chorale and Wind Symphony, large groups that perform music of the great masters, to the Jazz Ensemble and Groove Ensemble, groups that focus on improvisation and innovative arrangements. Various smaller ensembles offer students numerous opportunities for exciting collaborative music-making.
Our distinguished music faculty, many of whom maintain active performing careers, provide students with an environment that is both challenging and nurturing. A supportive community of faculty and peers results in a unique atmosphere of creativity and camaraderie at York College. The halls of the Division of Music are constantly filled with beautiful music, whether it is from the classroom, the practice room, the recording studio, or one of our many concerts.
