York College provides lots of resources to help students understand what they want from their college experience. Online self-assessment tools and career counseling are available through the Career Development Center, which also holds a Majors Fair for the many undecided students who need guidance with selecting a program of study.
In addition, every student is assigned an Academic Advisor to help plan the coursework for a major (and minor) and develop strategies for academic success. One of the tools to get conversations started in these advising sessions is the Personal Strategic Plan (PSP), a binder given to each new student at York that includes sections on:
The Personal Strategic Plan is an evolving document that grows with students throughout their years at York. It provides a physical place where they can keep all the documents and resources they accumulate as they plan for their future; it serves as a precursor to the professional portfolio they’ll create when they’re preparing for job or graduate school interviews.
Students have access to lots of resources through the Career Development Center to help them find a job or choose a graduate school: Mock Interview Day, Success After College Week, Alumni Career Contact program, on-campus recruiting events, and web employment resources.
York College’s alumni can attest to the successful outcomes their alma mater provides. Those who responded to a survey one year after graduation reported a 90% employment rate, and alumni gained entrance into graduate programs at prestigious universities like American, Harvard and Yale.
