How does York transform students into professionals? Our students learn these skills in the classroom from faculty who model and encourage professional behavior; through hands-on learning opportunities like internships, independent studies, co-ops, and service and leadership activities, where students put into practice what they have learned in the classroom; and through professional development seminars sponsored by the Career Development Center, which offer both theory and practical knowledge about being a professional in today’s workplace.
Our professional development seminars cover timely topics, those identified each year through York College’s national poll on professionalism, which asks human resource and business executives across the country to define the type of professional they are seeking to hire at their organization: what attributes they bring to the table, what skills they have, what type of person they are. The results of the poll inform future professional development seminars, guaranteeing that York College students are ahead of the curve when it comes to making themselves marketable as graduates.
