Spring on the York College campus

Resident Commuters

As a residential college, students are required to live in YCP campus housing and most do. Less than 10% of YCP students live off-campus.  Applying to live off campus as a student is a privilege extended to fourth year students.

A resident commuter is a student approved to live off-campus in the dwelling unit which is not the domicile of their parent/guardian.

Applications to become a resident commuter for the next academic year are available February 1 to February 24, 2017.  Information regarding deposits, room selection, and other applications will be sent home and emailed to resident students soon.

Looking to Move Off Campus? Resident Commuter FAQs

  • Am I eligible to apply?

In order to apply, you would need to meet these standard requirements.

    • Good academic standing (no restriction or probation)
    • Good disciplinary standing (no active conduct sanctions)
    • Paid the housing deposit and completed the housing contract by February 24
    • Completed the online off-campus application
    • Completed the online education program regarding expectations when living off campus
    • Indicate that the future property is licensed by the City of York or relevant municipality

A minimum credit requirement is set for applicants every year.  This information will be shared with parents/guardians and with students prior to the beginning of the resident commuter application process.

  • May I sign a lease now?

You should not sign a lease or put down any money unless you are released from the YCP residency requirement by the Office of Residence Life.  Signing a lease is not considered criteria on which releases are based.  This applies to all students.

  • How likely is it that I will be released?

Usually there are more students who apply and are eligible than will be released.  Release is not guaranteed.  As the number of new and current residents changes every year, our office cannot make this determination ahead of time.

  • I'm not going to have enough earned credits to be a senior. May I still apply?

No.  The application will only be available to students who have successfully earned the specified number of credits by the end of the Fall semester.  You will continue through the on campus room selection/lottery process.

  • What happens if I miss the application deadline?

Applications may not be submitted after the deadline and will not be accepted as students are expected to meet all published deadlines.  Information regarding the process and all dealines are mailed to every on campus student's home address in the Fall, are email to all current on-campus students, may be found on the this website, are posted on residence hall bulletin boards, are sent to students on flyers, and are shared during the housing information sessions.
