  • After School Assistant- Children ages 3 – 6

    Part-Time After School Assistant for Lower School available at York Country Day School beginning September 6, 2016, and ending at the close of the school year. Hours are Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., during academic sessions only. Hourly rate based on experience.

    Responsibilities include assisting program director with after school care for students ages 3 through 6 years old

    Requirements:

    • High School diploma and experience working with elementary-age children required

  • Before School Care/Aide

    The Before School Care/Aide position is a four-hour per day position (7-11 am), Monday through Friday, during the academic year (from late August through mid-June). The Before School Care provider will maintain a safe and positive before school environment for the York Country Day School Community and continue to improve the quality of all areas as needed.  This individual will care for children arriving to school before the official start of classes at 8 am.  Additional duties will include assisting in classrooms when needed, and completing clerical work for teachers. 

    The Before School Care/Aide reports to the Head of the Lower School, and has the following skills, qualifications, personal qualities, and responsibilities: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred
    • Knowledge of child growth and development ages 5 – 14 years
    • Certification in CPR and in other specialty safety areas preferred
    • Provide and lead active, creative, meaningful programming for children in Before School Care; including creative and tabletop activities
    • Ability to gather data and compile information for billing
    • Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications for billing
    • Strong communications skillsStrong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work on multiple assignments and prioritize accordingly
    • Must have patience, tact, friendly disposition, and enthusiasm

    The Director of After School Care is a Part-time, 5.5 hour per day position (12:30-6:00 pm), Monday through Friday, during the academic school year. The Director of After School Care will maintain a safe and positive after school environment for the York Country Day School Community and continue to improve the quality of all areas as needed.

    The Director of After School Care reports to the Head of the Lower School, and has the following skills, qualifications, personal qualities, and responsibilities:

    • Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred
    • Knowledge of child growth and development ages 4 to 14 years

    • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Elementary School Teacher

    York Country Day School (YCDS) seeks an experienced and innovative full-time fifth grade teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching young children, knowledgeable of childhood cognitive developmental needs and appropriate practices, well-versed in child-centered learning, and capable of creating an environment that fosters a love of learning. The individual selected will be expected to motivate, assess, engage and develop student learning while managing the routine daily activities for fifth grade students.  

    The YCDS faculty is innovative and collaborative and we seek candidates to complement the strengths of our program and to add his or her own expertise and background to provide additional breadth to the core curriculum. The candidate should also be committed to issues of diversity, leadership, inclusion, and equity.

    • Strong candidates possess:
    • Bachelor or Master’s degree with a major in elementary education

  • Physics Teacher

    York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated science teacher to teach physics and physical science, as well as mentor science fair projects. The selected candidate will join the faculty for the 2016-2017 school year.                     

     Beginning late August 2016, the physics teacher will teach upper school Physics, Conceptual Physics, and a middle school class on physical and earth/space science. The ideal candidate will effectively engage students in each age group. In addition, all teachers are expected to act as advisors for a small select group of students.

     Interested candidates should have expertise in 21st century learning within the classroom and knowledge of and experience with STEAM/STEM learning experiences for students. The ideal candidate will also have experience with mentoring science fair projects and independent scientific research.

     The ideal candidate should be an enthusiastic teacher who fosters critical thinking skills, engages students in classroom discussions, and promotes active, student-centered learning.  Candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate science field, 3 years of teaching experience, and be an excellent communicator and collaborator.
