Spring on the York College campus

Undeclared Student Advising

Everyone you know is asking “What’s your major?” That crucial answer might seem light years away — until our expert advisors and student mentors step in to guide you to a great fit. It’s not about declaring quickly. It’s about declaring correctly and with confidence.

Choosing the right major likely is one of the bigger life decisions you’ll be making. We know you don’t take that lightly, and that it can seem daunting. You’re not alone — the Undeclared major is the largest group amongst incoming York College students!

That’s why we offer the Explore 360 program. It’s a simple premise. We want to give you the best opportunity to explore all around you for potential options, with an academic advisor and a peer advisor there to help.

Undeclared can mean different things to different students. Whether you are truly undeclared and are completely unsure what to do next, or maybe just need a little guidance, we’re here to get you where you need to be.

Undeclared is the largest major for incoming students at York College. Students that enter YCP as Undeclared are each matched with an Academic Advisor and a Peer Advisor.

What we offer in Undeclared student advising

What do you get out of the Undeclared office? Advisors who can guide you on the path of declaring a major. We're there at Accepted Student Day plus Summer and Fall Orientation — we're there for you even before you begin classes! Throughout the semester, you can stop by Campbell hall to catch up with your peer advisor and meet with your academic advisor as you transition to campus and explore all the opportunities available to you at York College. We also offer:
  • Continued communication with Peer Advisor and Academic Advisor until major is declared — We are there for you every step of the way. That personal contact is what we think helps our program stand out.
  • Over the summer – monthly contact with Peer Advisor — Because summer can be a great time to do some serious thinking about your future.
  • Undeclared student socials — We don't think undeclared students should ever feel isolated! We offer meet-ups so you can meet other people exploring their options.
  • Majors Fair — Meet faculty and students from various majors so you can get a better picture of what the major is about.
